Amtrak just doesn't like people in wheelchairs. Few years back we rode Miami to Richmond, VA. Somewheres in the middle of Florida an old man in a wheelchair was lifted onboard, and placed in front of us. There were some brackets on the deck. No crew members ever came by to check on him. We took him...

I'm going to start referring to lawyers are "legal critters."

I read somewhere that even in its heyday, New York Central couldn't fill the office space and several floors were never finished or occupied.

I agree. The boys on Wall Street are pressuring UP to squeeze every cent out of operations. They probably said, "Who are always these people working in passenger service in Chicago?" "Why are you maintaining tracks that used just by passenger trains." "Cut, cut, cut." E...

If the money's right, I think CSX would sell anything to anybody.

I'd say the chances are nil.

Isn't basically the same problem? Hiring incompetent people over competent people because somebody higher up needs to do a favor for somebody? Are the crews on Metra Electric, Rock Island, Milwaukee, Heritage Corridor and North Central Service incompetent because they're Metra employees? What makes ...

So. you're telling me the UP has never hired relatives of UP execs or other UP employees? Nepotism is pretty common on railroads.

Doesn't make any difference. CN just likes to be obstructionist.

The CZ's main attraction is the scenic run west of Denver, and you're proposing to run it in the middle of the night! Unfortunately, any other night over multi-day train is going to stop somewhere at terrible hours.

It seems that the freight railroads, with their impercise and unscheduled railroading, are doing more to drive away any freight customers than any passenger trains could ever do. I think CSX, in particular, is getting ready to wrap things up and sell what's left of the railroad to government agencie...

Title of the issue was "Who shot the passenger train?" I'm not sure of the date.

Here's photographic proof that CN has no trouble operating short passenger trains in Canada, no axle counts here.

So, what exact wheel profiles are we talking about? The wheels on the new Siemens locomotives? The new Viewliners? CN's axle count requirements go back long before the Chargers were introduced and the only Viewliners on the Chicago-Carbondale line are, ironically, the new diners used in axle count s...
