Was doing some railfanning around the Erie, Pennsylvania area today and noticed many cars making a huge racket along the tracks in several spots. Upon further inspection i discovered a section of rail bolted into the welded rail on the w/b line. Also, there was a section of rail that was flat spotted along the top. I also noticed that this section of welded rail was imprinted NYC Lackawanna 1962.
Is this rail along the Lakeshore sub slated for replacement this summer? It's looking pretty shabby.
