Heat kink?

Given the weather we've been having, I would say that's almost a certainty.

Looks like no spillage, thankfully!

More than a kink. Looks like the whole track is off the bed.

Might be dirty dirt, but they were very clean cars...

Wow, it looks like all the ties were removed as well by the derailment.

Well, the heat kink causes the derailment and the cars pull the rail(s) and ties off. The tracks obviously weren't like that prior to the derailment.

Wow, that wreck train is something else.

Does CWR pose a greater risk for "kinking" or "bow-ing" in high-temp conditions? At least stick rail provides a little give in the gaps.

Yes, because CWR expands for the length of it. They do try to control the movement by using what I call tie clips (bottom of the rail, either side of the tie) to force the rail to stay put. The movement of the train itself could have caused a kink to form under the train, causing a derailment. Or, a rail could have rolled from the combined stress from the heat and train.

Mebbe add loose spike(s) in old tie(s) as a way of compromising the gauge.

So as of Friday the 13th, is the wreck debris removed and track 2 reinstated and available for use as a through track?

Update: Hook and damaged cars went to E Deerfield and ballast machines are working on track 2 mid-day Friday 7/13/18.
