My railroad radio exhibit at the New York Museum of Transportation is finally complete and ready for viewing in the NYMT Train Room.

It is now a permanent display and it will also be featured during the Antique Fire Trucks gathering on Sunday, September 17. I will be there all day to describe the exhibit and answer questions.

The theme of the exhibit is Train Crew Communications - From Kerosene Lanterns to Digital Radios. It describes the evolution from hand and whistle signals and telegraph train orders to radio communications. The focus is on how radio became a working tool of railroad train crews when radio technology made battery operated portable radios practical and standards for locomotive radios were developed. It does not cover early experimental uses of railroad radio. Examples of the evolution of portable and locomotive radios up to today's digital technology are on display.

The Museum is open with trolley rides Sundays 11-4 through October 29. Come out any Sunday for a Trolley ride and see the exhibit or come on Sunday September 17 to also see the fire trucks and meet me to discuss the exhibit.
