Monday, January 29th, brought a surprise to NYS&W's Utica rails namely the appearance of MA&N 2453 (ALCo C425) as substitute power for NYS&W 3040, likely down for inspection/repairs. 2453 made two trips to Sangerfield (23 miles south of Utica) during the week, once teamed-up with 3040. 2453 was still in the Susquehanna's Utica yard on Feb 2nd while 3040 was out handling work on the Utica industrials. The sharp-looking ALCo began its service as Erie-Lackawanna 2453 and was no stranger to the Utica branch.
