I visited Southern 630 and company last Saturday at Spencer where I was privileged to join other NS employees and retirees for the short trips up to Barber Junction and return. The train wasn't full, but the trip was fun enough. Very relaxing as we reminisced about the "old days" and the experiences we had on the railroad 20-30 years ago. GOSH! I can't believe its been 30 years since the merger! And here I am retired, an "old" man (HEY! Watch it!!
) of 64, and it seems just like yesterday.
Uncomfirmed railroad rumor has it Wick Moorman will be joining us at Spencer for the July 4 celebrations. Will he bring the NS Business train? Dunno. Another "railroad rumor"!
"They" say (whoever "they" is) that this will be a real humdinger of a celebration---probably one of the biggest events in the Transportation Museum's history. The museum people say that Norfolk Southern has really gone all out to make this a great historical event for both the company AND the museum! After all, there "must" be something TO it since NS went to great lengths to assemble all the representative locomotives in one place--something that is not likely to occur anywhere else. Lots of strings got pulled for this one!
So if you are planning to "foam" extensively, the time is NOW to plan to be at the NC Transportation Museum so you can REALLY "foam" up over these engines!!
It's gonna be a humdinger!!!!!!! ("They" SAY!) LOL!
