Good Afternoon Gentlemen,

I've recently become interested in the Pennsylvania Railroad and their operations here in the Cleveland area. I know that part of the lettering found on the pilots of PRR steam and diesel locomotives indicates the region that locomotive is assigned to. What does the rest of the lettering indicate and is there a name for it and a roster or list that translates that information? Forgive me if this topic has been discussed before.

Thanks,
Andy

Symbols on the pilot beam showed the division on the right side and the home terminal assigned on the left. I know of no list showing the symbol meanings or locations. Locally we had engines from Atlantic Division (ATL),PRSL (PRL) New Jersey Divsion (NJ) all assigned the Camden NJ engine terminal (CTE).

Hi Mr. Avis,

I saw your reply this morning. Thank You. Do you think that more than one division would be served at a single terminal system-wide?

Thanks Again.
