Car 303 is currently on hold. She left Cleveland on Tuesday and made it as far at Scranton, PA. However, the state of Connecticut refuses to issue the permits necessary to bring the car through the state. We are still trying to get the necessary permits.

Change the waybill so that they think it's a new M-8 and it will sail right through!

I wish that would work, although I think a 1906 built Niles car will look quite different from a 2009/2010 Kawasaki. Also the fact that the car is going to the opposite end of the state than the M-8s might also be a giveaway.

Aurora Elgin & Chicago car 303 arrived at the Connecticut Trolley Museum at Warehouse Point at around 2 pm today. I was able to catch the car in Middletown Conn and follow it in taking many pictures along the way. The car will be sitting on the dollies in the parking lot until tomorrow morning when the car will be unloaded. The only thing left for us to get are the parts sitting in a trailer in Cleveland.

The orphaned Midwestern trolley car touched down on Northeast Pennsylvania tracks in a small rail yard at South Washington Avenue and Cherry Street, its next-to-last stop in a long odyssey from a defunct Ohio museum.

The long saga of the Lake Shore Electric Railway Museum finally has closure. On Friday 3-5-2010 the last car going to a museum left the Cleveland RTA. Shaker Heights boxmoter/linecar "OX" completed loading and departed for the Northern Ohio Railway Museum. On Saturday unloading was completed and the car was towed by Cleveland Railway Crane 0711 to the Anson W. Bennett Carhouse.

Also on Friday the RTA moved streetcar 1218 into the Brookpark shop for protection from the elements. The car had been outside since being moved from Dock 32 in early December.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A 95-year-old streetcar that once traveled along Euclid Avenue to the turnaround at East 107th Street -- giving University Circle its name -- is coming home. Car No. 1218 will be restored by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, then displayed at that turnaround in front of the Cleveland Children's Museum, said Chris Ronayne, president of University Circle Inc., and Mark Ricchiuto, spokesman for Lake Shore Electric Railway Inc.

Just a note, if you read the link to the ECTM article on the CA&E car and it's similarities to the Laurel Line interurbans, you'll notice that they also mention a SEPTA car they picked up from Wisconsin. I did a little digging and it turns out it's from the East Troy Electric Railway collection. I finally found a pic, looks like it's also a runner, so there should a lot of interesting things happening at the ECTM!

Interesting the RTA used an MU to shunt around the historic car. That's a system that gets little coverage at the forum or anywhere else. I enjoyed a few rides as a kid.

Besides the 1218, I heard the better of the two Bluebird rapid cars also stayed in Cleveland.

There was only one Bluebird Rapid car in the LSE collection and it went to the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine. Other Bluebird rapid cars that the Brookins/Trolleyville collection had were scrapped at Trolleyville before they moved the collection to RTA tracks and the warehouse on the lakefront. You may be confused by the presence of Bluebird Rapid car 109 on the RTA. This car has always been RTA (CTS previously) property and was rehabbed by the RTA in early 1990 to be a work car to collect trash from rapid stations. A management change and a change to trucks to collect the trash left this rehabbed car with no work to do. Late in 1990 car 109 was brought into the shop again and beautifully restored back to her 1954 passenger configuration and appearance. It was placed on display along with 1914 built Shaker Rapid car 12 at the dedication of the new (1990) Tower City Station (former Cleveland Union Terminal). 109 has been run on some fantrips in the past.

That's most likely the car I was thinking of.
