It's been advertised in Railpace (they published it), but I haven't heard any reviews or seen any samples. Would like to have an idea of what's inside before I buy...

Here's one which "sort of" qualifies. Not sure if it's been mentioned but I'm not going back through 9 pages of posts to see! :-D

"Keeping The Railroads Running - Fifty Years on the New York Central" by Karl A. Borntrager.

The book is an autobiography of the man's rise from a low-level employee in the Engineering Dept to Senior Vice President of the NYC. While he spent time in Ohio, Michigan, and other places, much of his career was spent in NY State, both as a staff officer out of headquarters and as Superintendent of the Rochester Division. There is a good bit of info on New York State railroading even if the book itself is not devoted 100% to NY.

Surprised that this one has to date been left off the list:

STEAM AND TROLLEY DAYS ON THE FONDA, JOHNSTOWN AND GLOVERSVILLE RAILROAD, David F. Nestle, William R. Gordon

Believe that this was privately published M/L-1950s. No publisher or date of publication given within the book.

Another:

ITHACA-AUBURN SHORT LINE NEW YORK AUBURN & LANSING RR CENTRAL NEW YORK SOUTHERN RR, Richard F. Palmer

Privately published in the 1980s. No publisher or date of publication given within the book.

And but another:

Jamestown and Chautaugua Trolleys, Fenton Historical Society, 1974
  by charlie6017

Trackside Erie to Conrail by John R. Canfield

Pennsylvania Railroad Facilities In Color Vol. 7
by Robert J. Yanosey

Both published by Morning Sun Books

Without wading though the previous pages I can't be sure but thought this had been mentioned before. EDIT: I stand corrected, I just reread through the entire thread and, you're correct, Jamestown and Chautauqua Lake Trolleys has NOT been mentioned previously.

"Jamestown and Chautauqua Lake Trolleys" was printed by the Fenton Historical Society in 1974 and reprinted in 1987.

A follow up volume titled "Trolleys of Jamestown and Chautauqua Lake-A New Look" by Helen G. Ebersole was published by the Fenton Historical Society in 1998.

The deceptively named "Greater Erie Trolleys" by Kenneth C. Springirth (Arcadia Publishing, 2005) has chapters on the Buffalo and Lake Erie Traction Company, Chautauqua County (Chautauqua Traction, Jamestown Street Railway & Jamestown, Westfield and Northwestern) and a brief portion on the Jamestown (NY) and Warren (PA) Street Railway.

Finally, "Around Chautauqua Lake", subtitled "50 Years of Photographs 1875-1925" by Paul Leone and Mary Poshka, while not a true railway book, does include enough photos of the trolleys and railroads that served the environs around Chautauqua Lake to make it interesting for most railway enthusiasts with an interest in history of that region.

Dear all since it is again that time of the year that everybody is thinking about his/her wish list for either Sinterklaas, or his younger sibling Santa Claus, I have recompiled the New York State book list. So there is no need for wading through the whole thread, if a book is not listed in the list below let it know.

Enjoy!
