The book from 1969, The Commuter Railroads, by Patrick C. Doran has a number of photos of the CNW's unique suburban equipment.
This book was from the time that CNW's suburban service was running at a profit, and thus a good amount of the Chicago chapter is focused on them.
It mentions the single level lounge cars ran on the longer distance trains to Harvard, and Lake Geneva, as well as race track and sports specials.
I states that these lounge cars were popular and heavily patronized.
