Note: I posted this at the CTA forum, thought we could discuss the Metra portion of the map here...

Took a closer look at the map, and one Metra route that would really benefit from this is Mliwaukee West. With a new transit line operating on the ROW between Cicero & Mannheim that would serve all intermediate stations now served by Metra, saving those 4-5 stops on this route would definitely speed up service. This sort of an upgrade means a 25 min. ride from CUS to Franklin Park could occur at all times of day, instead of just during rush. Metra Electric would shed its branches and be taken over by CTA, not a bad idea; would free up more equipment for additional mainline service should that become necessary. Financial and infrastructure commitments aside (both of which would boggle the mind), this one of the few "futuristic" maps I've seen that leaves the Rock's Blue Island branch intact, which is interesting...

Hmm. This scheme looks logical, but it wastes far too many existing expensive grade separations (the grade-separated flyout for the Metra Electric South Chicago branch, the 63rd Street branches of the Green Line) while requiring a lot of new grade separations.
