The subject about past equipment on RI, had me thinking about past schedules before RTA started.

Here is a look at RI's old schedule dated 6.25.72, showing a lack of Hickory Creek and 80th Avenue. Also the additional stations in the city of Chicago.

Other interesting notes, in 1972 the time given for outbound trains to get to Gresham was 17 minutes, up 1 minute from the current 16. At the same time numerous track improvements have been made between those two points. Same thing happens with the current timetable for the Tinley Park express:

2008 | 1972 | Station
3:40 | 5:11 | LaSalle St.
4:14 | 5:43 | Tinley Park
4:18 | ----- | 80th Ave.
4:23 | ----- | Hickory Creek
4:27 | 5:50 | Mokena
4:33 | 5:55 | New Lenox
4:45 | 6:08 | Joliet

Cool, thanks for posting. It's ironic that there was more mainline service back then even though there were fewer passengers. Now there's more passengers, but less mainline service. And I'd bet that evening mainline departure from LaSalle at 7:30pm would be real popular today...
