From MTA web site:

There is no train service on the Hudson Line between Garrison and Peekskill due to a track condition caused by the heavy rains. We are working to establish shuttle bus service between these two points.

Where was the flooding?
How did the bussing work out?

More info from the web site, but it doesn't say exactly where the problem occured.

MTA Metro-North Railroad
ALERT
Hudson Line 10:50 AM

There is no train service between Garrison and Peekskill because of a track condition resulting from the recent extreme weather in that area. Shuttle bus service, however, is available between these two stations. Trains will depart Poughkeepsie and Grand Central at regularly scheduled times. At Garrison, customers can pick up shuttle bus service to Peekskill where they can resume regular train service.

At this time, we anticipate delays of up to one hour or more for customers traveling to or from points between Peekskill and Poughkeepsie.

As an alternative, you may want to drive to our Croton-Harmon Station?where parking restrictions have been relaxed?to pick up regular train service. For driving directions you can go to our Stations Section and select the Croton-Harmon page.

We anticipate that full train service will not be restored for the PM Peak period and shuttle bus service will be in effect. Hudson Line customers can expect extensive delays and crowding. If possible, we suggest that customers consider taking Harlem Line trains to stations nearby their destinations and make arrangements to be picked up. Hudson Line tickets will be accepted on the Harlem Line.

I am told that the washout is just south of Middle Tunnel, near MP-44, and has affected both tracks. Road closures are also making establishment of bus service difficult. There is speculation that the railroad may not be reopened until tomorrow afternoon.

The CP Rail freight cannot leave New York becuase of the washout. Two MN trainsets are trapped above the washout. No word on how Amtrak operations are affected.

I wonder how Amtrak is gonna detour some of its trains?? Will the Lake Shore be detoured or are they just gonna cancel it?? I would think they can detour the train from Penn Station to New Haven and then up via Hartford, CT and then west.....?

Otto,Keep us informed!!

No the CP freights can't get to the other side of the river. AND the back door, via the Upper Harlem doesn't exist any more, so they'll just have to wait until the tracks are reopened. Years ago when things like this happened, east-west trains and trains heading north of Albany were rerouted via the Harlem Line to Chatham and then west to Albany via the B&A but thanks to Conrail, this alternative is no longer available.

Would it be possible to reroute via the Harlem Line to Dyckmans, and then across to Beacon? Or is this not possible due to the lack of signals, crossing protection, track inspection, etc along the Maybrook line. Just wondering?

That route would be posible despite slow, problem is only 5 qualified engineers on line and 4 are on regular jobs and other on list and none will be rested till 23.00.

From Metro-North:
Both tracks between Peekskill and Garrison will be available for AM Peak service on Tuesday, August 17. Therefore, Metro-North will operate its regularly scheduled train service on the Hudson Line.
