Plan to raise Metro-North fares irks passengers

Metro-North passengers were none too happy Friday to learn of a potential five percent fare hike, the second in two years.

One of the major benefits of the Shore Commuters for OnTime Trains in NJ was the ability to bring commuters, local political officials and labor into a collaborative discussion of short term and long term needs.

It may be that MetroNorth needs the money, or maybe it doesn't, but there aren't any trustworthy numbers to support either argument. As soon as local politicians see an angry and organized group of people, things begin to happen.
