Own a piece of Budd Equipment. Ozark Mtn. railcar has 2 RDC's for sale currently.

An RDC1 for $120,000 ex-VIA, exx-CN

http://www.ozarkmountainrailcar.com/rdc16143.htm

and An RDC 2 for $93,500 also from the same heritage.....

http://www.ozarkmountainrailcar.com/RDC26216.htm

Not to bad lookin... Are in operable condition too..... good for a museum operation.....

Also, 2 SPV's, or as known to Amtrak as MU's. They are from Metro North...

$15,000 a piece!!!! Thats a steal! :-D :-D :-D :-D

#296

#297

#296 could do with a tagging remover, but would do great for a passenger operation too......

Why would Amtrak call them MUs? Of course, in service SPV became an acronym for Seldom Propelled Vehicle. 15K is not a good price for something that doesn't work, unless you want to use them as locomotive hauled coaches-

Why would it not work? How much work would it need to be again operational?

BTW: it looks just like an Amtrak Amfleet Metroliner.

The Hobo RR has several RDC-1s up for sale....They are former MBTA units though, so they only have one remaining engine for heat/AC

At last count, there were five ex-RDG RDC's on the Hobo RR. These were car Nos. 9151, 9154, 9158, 9159 and 9161. The link only shows a single ex-BM car, are any of the Reading cars also on the block?

From what I'm told only the MBTA ones are up.

Ok, thank you.

OK, perhaps a matter of semantics and usage here, but to me an MU is a pair or more of electrics, not diesel powered equipment. Of course, you MU diesel locomotives, and not double-head them (as many posters on these forums seem to insist). Again, the use of "MU" just seemed odd here.

Since DMUs are scarce nowadays, most people think of EMUs simply as MUs.

But, what are the problems with the SPV's? Don't they run by themselves? Can they pull atleast 2-3 other passenger cars too?

If they are anything like the RDC's, pulling anything would void the warranty. Budd never designed them to pull anything.

No! Really? Thats a rip-off. However, I would think that the warrenty is already expired on these babies.....

Good news for "engineer jimmy". Apparently Proto has a bunch of RDC's for sale, in various road names, ready-to-run, with a warranty included!!!! They should even fit, on the board in your basement, if you are still pursuing THAT project................ :P Look here, for more swell ideas..... http://www.budd-rdc.org/rdcmodels.html

LMAO. Thats pretty good. I'd rather just buy a regular size one though.....
