I recently took the train from Stratford to Toronto, and noticed for the most part the entire line is welded rail, except for a stretch between New Hamburg and Breslau. On the older rails the speed was limited, and a few spots quite rough. The bridge over the Grand River in Kitchener was crossed at a crawl, and the swaying of the cars from side to side was enough to startle a child near me. Wouldn't VIA have some cause to push the GEXR to improve track conditions to help maintain speed and eliminate some of the wear and tear on equipment ? I have noticed one or two stretches of track around the Kitchener station with welded rail mixed in, but for the most part, old rails exist. Are there any other sections of track without welded rail in the corridor ?
