Clem and everyone: When the LIRR did the Massapequa Park grade crossing elimination in 1979-80 they used from just east of Massapequa station to the Unqua Road overpass a form of concrete paved direct fixation slab track. Why was this not duplicated and it looks like to me it has held up well but the pretzel clips can be seen strewn on it in spots. I recall track like this was used in Europe in spots as well as the slab track on the Amityville/Copaigue/Lindenhurst viaducts as well as the Merrick/Bellmore viaducts in the 70s. It is a shame that there are problems with the concrete ties as said the LIRR being the political animal it is these problems can be worked out. MACTRAXX
