A few years ago, the railroad rebuild port washinton station. They put a new roof on the building, but left out the curved window in the center which is called an "owls eye window". The historical society in Port wash went nuts, and the railroad had to replace the new roof with another new roof, this time with the Owls eye window back in place.

Good for them and their insistence!!!!!!!!!

That "owls-eye" window was very distinctive!!

That's as bad as the trimmed eaves and "new" dormers that were put on the old Hempstead station. Changed the entire look of the building.

The Port Washington Station was rebuilt in late 1997-early 1998, just in time for the 100th anniversary of rail service to Port Washington, which took place on June 23, 1998. (I still have my tile from the anniversary, which says the date.)

Wow, the town of Port Washington should be very proud of the beautiful station they have.
