Thanks Mr. Meehan. Guess the NH damage will limit NEC service as well. Wow. Maybe not as bad as Sandy, but still. Anyone see a boat on the tracks?

A Metro-North officer says it happened just after 7:30 p.m.

3 trains being held on the Harlem: 9602, 9605, 9606 at Pleasantville, White Plains, and Mt. Kisco respectively. Any idea what's up?

Also a freight mishap on Hudson line causing some delays.

Power issues produce train delays at Grand Central Terminal

A heat-related power issue in the Bronx caused significant delays across the Metro-North Railroad, officials said Thursday evening.

The Harlem, Hudson and New Haven lines were delayed by 50 minutes or more during the evening rush, the agency said. The power issues hit two lines especially hard, causing delays of up to 90 minutes for New Haven riders and delays of up to 120 minutes on the Harlem line, Metro-North said.

Michael Kane was on a Metro-North train to the Yankees game packed with baseball fans that was continually delayed on the tracks before arriving at the station. He said they got on the train at 4 p.m. and weren't allowed off until after 8 p.m.

The wait became too much for some people, who according to Kane, decided to jump off into the tracks to get away. Those who stayed on didn't miss the game completely, but arrived an hour late, Kane said.

Metro-North is reporting that due to flash flooding and a tree down on the tracks near Cortlandt, all Hudson Line service between Croton-Harmon and Poughkeepsie is currently suspended. MNR advises:
We are attempting to secure buses, but until they are secured and on scene, please consider alternate means of transportation.
A passenger on Train 8844, the 2:51 pm train from Poughkeepsie, due in Grand Central 4:55 pm, posted to Metro-North's Twitter account twenty minutes ago at about 7:45 pm:
We’ve been stuck on train 8844 between stations for 4+ hours. What’s the plan?

There also was high water near Garrison.
Heavy rain? High winds? or both?

There is severe flooding in the area, with West Point gettiing over 8" of rain. Reports of washouts south of Poughkeepsie.

appears that MNRR may have to consider raising the tracks along the Hudson? Not knowing the topography is that even possible ? Was there another wash out somewhere along this route a few years ago?

From what I was able to gather today at work (Amtrak) there are several washouts around the Garrison area. There may have been a house that slid down the hillside and into the river in the same area. I do know this anything that left or was scheduled to leave Albany after 230pm never made it past Poughkeepsie or never left Albany at all. I also heard through some connections MNRR was worried with the Mott Haven area as there was a large cell approaching that area.

Although not MNRR the CSX West Shore was also heavily impacted in the West Point area.

As for MNRR shades of Sandy… it being a Sunday lessens the impact but today will be a mess.

Amtrak has suspended all services between Albany and NYC. From their website: "Due to severe weather conditions, Amtrak service is temporarily suspended between Albany and New York City."
