Hitachi Rail selected a site in Hagerstown to build the 8000-series cars, which will start to see completion in 2024

The 8000 series are to replace the nearly 40 year old 2000/3000 series cars.

WMATA has not said if they will replace or rehab the 6000 series cars, which are pretty reliable

Pretty reliable?? You know a good chunk are still out of service because of the decoupling fiasco, right?

yes, but they are fixing in.
That decoupling problem maybe caused by human error and it is the only major problem they've had with the 6000 series.
