Results for this period are:
TOTAL TRAINS = 1145
ON TIME = 554 (48%)
LATE = 591 (52%)
AVERAGE DELAY = 43"
Of the late trains:
56% were 29" or less late;
20% were 30" to 59" late;
19% were 1' to 2' late;
8% were more than 2' late; and
<1% had no arrival time shown.
Unlike Amtrak's figures, no "grace" period is allowed. OT is OT and Late is Late!
BY ROUTE, WITH ON-TIME % AND AVERAGE DELAY:

(E) - 64% - 17"
KANSAS CITY CORRIDOR
(W) - 50% - 35"
(E) - 50% - 31"
While there is some limited improvement, the overall results are lackluster.
Services which improved in both measured categories include:
eastbound "Cardinal";
westbound "Lake Shore Limited" and STL Corridor; and
both directions of the "Pennsylvanian" and the DET and BUF Corridors.
The delay causes for the reviewed services as shown by the Amtrak Twitter sites:
Amtrak Equipment = 51;
3rd Party = 27;
Weather = 31;
Amtrak Holds = 10;
Cancelled / Annulled = 22;
Crew Issues = 3;
Host Carriers = 173; and
N. O. S. = 465.
Included in the last category are numerous instances of extended delays in terminals or on the road for which no explanation is provided. Perhaps the feeling is that with so much padding in the schedules these delays will be made up en route, so why bother accounting for them.
The top performing service is "City of New Orleans" which has more than 2' 15" padding in each direction.
The poorest performers are the westbound "Lake Shore Limited" and eastbound "Capitol Limited".
The short corridors all benefit from 30" to 45"+ padding in the individual schedules so that the current schedules are longer than those of 60 years ago.
So much for progress.
