"NJ Transit said the the North Jersey Coast Line's train 3292 experienced a derailment around 12:20 a.m. near the Woodbridge Station."

"None of the seven passengers or crew members on the train were hurt, officials said."

Back in the day they would have had one track open by now ......

And you have to love their language: "experienced a derailment "

Looks like the whole train derailed. According to NJT.com, the suspension in this segment will run through Wednesday.

The video was shot from the News 12 TV helicopter. There is often a ham radio operator, callsign KA2DUT, on board and a track of the flight path is available in real time and for a few days after. Here is a screen shot of the path of the chopper as it circled the derailment location: https://tinyurl.com/KA2DUTderailmentVideo

The line was closed for over 48 hrs, and when it reopened TK 2 was announced to be out of service for four more days. Wonder why it is taking NJT so long to get the railroad back into full service?

Noticed that you can see signals in part of the video. Was this occurred at a CP? Always have to ask in that case if train split a switch ?

Yes - the accident happened at in interlocking known as Wood -just south of Woodbridge station.
Back in the Jersey Central/PRR days, this was the location where CNJ trains left the New York & Long Branch to head towards Elizabethport and Jersey City.

I have from a reliable source that the preliminary cause was that of a (EBR) Engine Burn Fracture. This is caused by wheel silp, so its kinda undetectable.

§ 213.113 Defective rails.
(8) Engine burn fracture means a progressive fracture originating in spots where driving wheels have slipped on top of the rail head. In developing downward these fractures frequently resemble the compound or even transverse fissures with which they should not be confused or classified.

...when I go to the video link at shorenewsnetwork, all I get is a still image.. no way to start or play video. Am I missing something? I'm trying to get my head around exactly where this happened. I know that there have been track changes at Wood since I was through there on a daily basis.... MANY years ago. TV news seemed to indicate this happened just barely north of Perth Amboy station... But back in the days I remember, coming north off the Raritan Bay Bridge, the two tracks expanded to 4 up thru the station, thru Wood interlocking and eventually the two "center" tracks went straight to the Jersey Central "Chemical Coast" branch and the two outer tracks went PRR west towards the NEC. Northbound, the PRR ducked under the JC tracks. I think the duckunder is long gone and only one JC track now comes into Wood. Whether there are still 4 tracks thru Perth Amboy station, I do not recall...

Just south/almost immediately under the 440 overpass leading onto the Outerbridge Crossing.
