"An 11-year-old Mississauga boy is dead after being struck by a train in Ontario’s cottage country.
Police say the boy was with family and friends on a railway bridge in Huntsville prior to the accident Sunday night.
The group had apparently been trying to tie a rope to hang over the river to swing from when they were startled by an oncoming Ontario Northland Railway train.
Police say some of the people avoided the train by stepping onto a steel girder that runs parallel to the bridge, while others ran to safety at the end of the bridge.
The boy was struck while trying to outrun the train to the bridge’s end.
A 15-year-old boy also sustained minor injuries during the incident and was in a Huntsville hospital Sunday night.
Police say the names of the boy and injured teen are not being released until their families are notified.
None of the 80 passengers on the train were injured.
