A new topic I wanted to open up. I went through the LIRR 1966 maps for the following:
LI City
Brenner Paper Corp.
NY Envelope
LI CIty Meurer's
Bonded Paper-Gay Trking
Muller Paper
Case Paper
LI Ciry Kearney
Paper Products Div
Degnon
Formulite Paper Corp.
Saxon Paper
Equitable Paper Corp.
Viking Criterion Paper
NY Envelope
Maspeth
Janine Paper & Twin
Canover Paper
E. Greene Paper
Bushwick Branch
US Paper Bag
Salwin Paper
Corona Yard
Prudential Paper
Jamaica Freight
Neptune Paper
New Hyde Park
Alliance Paper
Garden City
Borus Bros. Paper Co.
Garden City Paper Co
Hicksville
Plastic Paper
Meadowbrook Paper
Farmingdale
New Haven Paperboard
Hygrade Paper
Brentwood
Carnation Paper
NY Envelope may or may not be around still. And of course Country Life Press, Newsday, maybe Doubleday. What about smaller papers like Suffolk County News, etc.?
From Gerg Grice:
LIRR and NYA had a substantial paper/box business all virtually gone now. A substantial amount of freight boxcar revenue from this type of newsprint /paper roll traffic, over the years. Here are a few having ceased operation:
Southern Container- Deer park
Norma Pac and Star Corrugated- Maspeth
Combined/Island Container- Wyandanch
Heritage Paper- East New York(Bay Ridge)
American Tissue/Gaylord paper bag- Huntington 12 car spot large building
Case Paper- Long Island City
Roblaw/AJM Pineaire(back track)
Fonda/Bleyer Group- Maspeth and Bushwick spot
Pinter Brothers Deer Park I
The industries listed were served by both NYA and LIRR, with perhaps others.
Photos, paperwork, insight, etc. Please chime in! Thanks.
