Got word that 1075 is now with 1719 on 1712's former set E122122. For anyone looking to catch it. 1063 is no longer with 1707 and is now with 1804 E121222. Saw 1063 this morning at jfk.
I rode that set yesterday afternoon out to Needham Heights. 1075 looks brand new, very impressive. But it's still LOUD; it's a pity the overhaul didn't include anything to make it quieter.
Why is the set backwards? I thought it was a rule that locomotives always had to be on the "outbound" end of the train

Well actually, the 3Cs are louder than the 2Cs. The HEP generator is almost as loud as a geep. I don't really know why the set was backwards but nonetheless, it was a pretty cool thing to see. MBTA doesn't really do that too often

They were properly expecting trees / branches to come down last night. That backward set was probably put together so the engine could lead the first set in in the morning in case there were any obstructions on the rails.
Really the only time you see a backward set is in the winter during snow storms for the same reason.
I was going to comment about how much louder these -3c rebuilds are than the -2cs. It's surprising how much louder the HEP got. At a distance you can't even hear the prime mover over the sound of it. It's a different sort of sound than the GP40MCs overly loud HEP system, though.
Just an FYI, the 1075-1719 set is flipped back. They did that after the next day once the damaged trees were off the tracks. I had seen it confirmed at south station. Btw 1063 went up north so it's no longer with 1804. Now we all can sit back and wait to see what units are getting sent out next to be rebuilt.
1064 and 1066 have been chillin' in the Rochester area for quite some time now. Probably has something to do with MPI moving from Boise to Erie. I've also heard rumors that 1051 is leaving soon. No idea if this is true because the '51 was already rebuilt at the BET. I'd expect the BET rebuilds to leave after the original F40s.
So it seems 1050 and 1061 have gone missing. According to NETransit, they're down South but neither have been spotted running anywhere recently. I've also heard that 1061 and 1050 seem to be the two least reliable 3Cs.
