Forgive me if this has been posted already, but I have heard that track maintenance and rights are appropriated to individual municipalities as opposed to fed govt. south of Washington, DC. Would someone confirm, disconfirm
or elaborate?

Also, it is understandable if this is the case, as snowstorms are relatively rare in this region and tend to cause havoc when they do occur.

Or Amtrak itself now that they bought a chunk of the CSX A-Line immediately north of the Sun Rail segment.

Which are corporations or independent government agencies, they are not municipalities nor a part thereof.

That answers my question. So it is the freight companies that maintain the tracks, not the towns.

Right--the freight companies maintain the tracks and the towns tax them. A public-private partnership?
