New ferry service implications for NJT ridership

Now that NY Waterway is implementing its new HOB to 39th ST. ferry service, will this have an impact on NJT ridership?

I would think it would have more of an impact on PATH service from Hoboken to 33rd Street, although it should be minimal. The ferry is more expensive than the PATH and unless you work right on the west side waterfront, takes longer (the ferry ride itself may only be 8 minutes but taking the ferry bus crosstown from 12th Avenue during rush hour negates any potential time saved). Not to say that the new service won't be successful as I'm sure local Hoboken residents will utilize it, but I do not think too many commuters from points west will abandon the PATH.

When you hear of crew shortages and overcrowded coaches, maybe this will take a little pressure off NJT.

It could be an enticement, since there's a better way to get to NYC from Hoboken now, depending on where you're going.
