Anyone know about this unique assignment on S.I.R.T ?
I was told this came about because of a strike at St. Louis Car Co. resulting in late delivery of MUE-2's (R-44's)
and rapid failure of 1925 Standard Steel MUE-1's
How many cars were assigned ? Who operated them, SIRT or LIRR ? Did any cars have lavatories ? How long were they out there ?
Anything else you could add would be appreciated.
