I had asked over in the HACK Talk thread about these hopper cars: Image
Here's what I have thus far: 60% down the MOW page: http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/lirrmow.htm

Roster:
LI 6001-6005 Diffco Side Dump Class HMA: (Ore Car) Open top self-clearing car, having fixed sides and ends and bottom consisting of two divided hoppers with doors hinged lengthwise of car and dumping between rails.

LI 6100-6162 Within the 6100-6162 series 13 rib we have early delivered version and an extended version: Class HT: Open top self-clearing car, having fixed sides and ends and bottom consisting of three or more divided hoppers with doors hinged crosswise of car and dumping between rails.

LI 6160-6162 15 rib series LI Ballast Hoppers

LI 100015-100034 The series 100015-100034 has 11 ribs with 3 center ribs close together
HT: Open top self-clearing car, having fixed sides and ends and bottom consisting of three or more divided hoppers with doors hinged crosswise of car and dumping between rails.

John Volpi was kind enough to develop this page on the rib-sided hoppers: http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/ballas ... oppers.htm

As this is my first pass on this area, any additional photos, corrections, and information would be appreciated on this "modern" era MOW series.

Question: I noticed they were interchanged. Anyone with input as to loads in/out? Thank you.

Thanksgiving wishes to all. :-)

first two pictures are not hoppers, they are Difco dumpers.

Thanks, Dutch, as Class "H" - HOPPER CAR TYPEs. I'll set them up in a separate area as Diffco Side Dump Class HMA: Open top self-clearing car, having fixed sides and ends and bottom consisting of two divided hoppers with doors hinged lengthwise of car and dumping between rails.

The other cars are LI Ballast Hoppers Class HT: Open top self-clearing car, having fixed sides and ends and bottom consisting of three or more divided hoppers with doors hinged crosswise of car and dumping between rails.

The difco's do not have bottom dumping capacity they are side dumps only.

Thank you, revised: LI 6001-6005 Diffco Side Dump Class MWD - Dump Cars. On the type of contractors' car used for building up fills; the body of the car dumps being raised by means of counterweight, air or hand power.

The ballast cars were rebuilt from coal hoppers, cant recall the heritage though.
