I've seen a reference to this, but have never heard of it. I thought everything out of LaSalle St. was the Metra Rock Island District. Is there, in fact, a Joliet District?

There's the "Joliet Sub District" which refers to the main line between Gresham and Blue Island on the Rock. The Beverly Branch os called the "Beverly Sub District"

Then what's it called between BI and Joliet?

The entire main line is technically the "Rock Island- Joliet Sub District", and the branch is the "Beverly Sub District", but usually only the portion of the main from Gresham to BI is referred to as the "Joliet Sub District" to differentiate it from the branch.

No reason to use a special name for BI-Joliet because that's the only track there.
