MC's already got 11 MBB's stored for Cape Flyer future considerations. What could they possibly need more of them for?

Dose anybody know what commuter train this extra will be following if its following anything?

The first outbound train of the day on Saturdays doesn't leave South Station until 8:40.

Wouldn't it be easier to attach the MBB & old loco to the end of the already scheduled 8:40 train?

HELL no. Adding another 10 cars and a dead loco would create WAY too much weight for the loco on that *regularly scheduled train* to pull.

I was thinking, since you are already switching cars, add the 10 cars + 1 dead engine, & pull with two engines but only one engineer. Net labor savings of 1 engineer, but yeah pulling an extra 11 would probably be slower even with two engines.

The locomotive in tow(1004) is dead, it wont provide power at all. It's basically just more weight to carry. Two separate moves would make a lot more sense because it wont interfere with train schedules and will not cause an overweight consist.

What will be done with 1004? Is it being sent to scrap/storage or to be rebuilt?

For reasons unknown, 1004 is still here at B.E.T. On a sad note, the last F-40, 1013, was towed in dead last night with the crankcase button popped (over compression in the crankcase) she was cut from the line-up this afternoon and may not run again.
