Guys,
It was brought to my attention via SJRA this last week that Conrail has apparently removed a 1/4 mile portion of rail between N. East Avenue and North Valley Avenue paralleling Hendee Rd. in Vineland, effectively severing the ex-CNJ Winslow to Bridgeton via Vineland route. Is anyone aware of a STB filing that was made to do this? I was not even aware that this segment of rail was effectively abandoned. As far as I knew, it was still considered in-service industrial track.

Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone have photos of this ROW with the rail recently removed by chance?

I'm somewhat confused at how this could be done with out a STB filing...unless I missed it.

Thanks in advance guys.

No STB filling would have to be made. All this has done has made a physical barrer on making the railroad out of service. The Same has been done on the Southern Secondary at MP 61 in South Lakewood. The tracks are out of service, but not abandon. This way the crossings and tracks need not be inspected until they are returned to service.

Vince,
Thanks - even if its a 1/4 mile long physical barrier? It appears to be from the Conrail / NJDOT property line to N. East Avenue (the location of Conrails last customer) that was removed. That is a length of about 1/4 mile of industrial track that was removed, not just a pair of rails. It doesn't place any trackage beyond it out of service - it cuts Conrails portion of the Vineland Industrial 1/4 mile short.

Got some pictures of various parts of this line yesterday (5/19). As you said the rails have been removed for about a 1/4, although they still intact (but overgrown) north of Oak rd. Unfortunatley this does not look good for the SRNJ ever reopening the line to Winslow from Vineland.
Here is the section along Hendee Rd:
