According to the March, 1954 Official Guide, the Pittsburgh-Springfield sleeper was an 8 Section/Lounge except Saturdays. The eastbound was in #46, The New Englander through from Pittsburgh to New York. #46 also had coaches to New York and a diner from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg. At New York, the sleepers were coupled into #186, The Quaker, which originated in Philadelphia and ran through to Boston. At New Haven the Pittsburgh sleeper was carried on New Haven #412 along with two sleepers from Washington which came into New Haven on the Washington-Boston Federal. The return trip out of Springfield was on New Haven Train #85 to New Haven, thence in New Haven #189 The William Penn to New York and the PRR's Pittsburgher to Pittsburgh.
