Pan Am's Heritage Locomotives

For the sake of discussion, who could you see purchasing or trading for the two?

1 is leaving soon and won't be going far...The other is staying put until someone makes an offer.

All I'll say is that there are plenty of shortlines & tourist operators in New England who have an interest in them.

Do you know which one it is? I don't question the need or want, in fact I would image there value is pretty high because they were painted in the heritage colors and are these two the only remaining GP9's from the B&M?

I know of a local guy who might be looking for another GP-9. One of these two was just down the road a few years back.

LTEX owns the 51 (1725) 62 (1719) 71 (1736) and the 1728 (which is in ohio).

The Railroad Muesum of New England owns the 1732

and the only two remaining and currently running B&M GP9s left are the 77 (1738) and the 52 (1726).

The LTEX units more than likely will be cut up and stripped of parts for resale. Sad only 3 B&M Geeps may remain out of 50!

The Guilford Sightings Group is showing the 52 and 77 as Out of Service as of 2/28/19.

They are both in service.

Saw a comment made by a Pan Am employee a while back on Facebook, and he said both the 52 and 77 are sitting at Waterville drained. Can anyone confirm?

Yes, both are dead and drained, and supposedly sold (along with the 72).

Any word yet on who the buyer/buyers are?

...that way they can reuse the oil in other engines!

While on the subject of classic paint schemes moving west, word has surfaced that the last trio of operable Pan Am ex B&M GP9s, ST 52, 72, 77, have been sold to Heber Valley Heritage RR in Utah.

The 52 wears the MEC heritage scheme, while 77 wears the B&M heritage, 72 still wears Guilford paint. More fair thee well departures

I guess Utah is still better than becoming razor blades.

The Herber Valley RR is landlocked/Isolated tourist RR.The 3 Geeps will wind up at Provo Ut on UP and get trucked to that tourist line.
