Piermont NY's 19th-century train station will stay put. The village board informally decided this week to forgo a controversial plan to move the train station and convert it into a visitors center and museum. The decision was made after many residents criticized the proposed move. "The residents wanted to see it left where it is," Mayor Ed Traynor said. Now, the Piermont Historical Society, which had proposed the move as an alternative, will try to raise funds and apply for grant money to restore the Ash Street building. The estimated cost to replace the roof and restore the building's interior and exterior is about $163,000.
