I often meet my wife at the West Roxbury station on the Needham Line. It's gotten me to wondering if that line, or parts of it, were ever double-tracked? The LaGrange St. bridge abutments look as if they could have supported two tracks at one time.

Thanks for any informatiom.

The Dedham Branch which included the stations as far as West Roxbury was double tracked. The Needham Branch which diverged just beyond West Roxbury was single track. When the outer end of the Dedham Branch was abandoned, the remainder was single tracked. This may have taken place before the abandonment.
