The GP20's are up for sale. Not sure about the rest

Those with interest in the 20s can contact Cooperstown and make an offer. For that matter make an offer on any of the equipment not planned for future use.

Don't forget SD40 3020 and F45 3636 which are still on the roster, but stored long-term. If you only want active units, leave off 2062, 2064, 2066, 3010, 3020, 3042, 3618, 3634, 3636, 4050, 4052, and 4054.

That's a lot of stored/inactive/retired units :-(

I believe #3636 and #3020 have had some major engine components removed along with many other parts. They are probably nearing the end of their existence.

Not sure about #3042, last I heard it was still OK, but slowly being parted out to keep #3040 running.

News in the "CEFX Leaser" thread says 3636 and 3020 are scheduled to be scrapped:

Sad, yet unsurprising news about the 3636.
You need to be a user to view this, therefore I can't read it
I didn't renew my Trains subscription this year, so I can't see the News Wire stories either. However, I think it's really cool that this is making headlines!

Fortunately for us non-subscribers, someone posted the entire article on the Yahoo! groups. Here's a fair-use quote:
Trains Magazine News Wire wrote:COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - The New York, Susquehanna & Western will be taking delivery of six modern six-axle units by July 2012 to handle road assignments between Binghamton, N.Y., and North Bergen, N,J,, while ridding several models from its locomotive roster...

Six former GMTX (ex-Oakway) SD60s are being long-term leased (greater than 5 years) and are in the process of being overhauled and rebuilt by VMV in Paducah, Ky. The units are undergoing major rebuild of all components, including: the prime mover, AR-11 alternator, trucks, cooling fans, grid blowers, grids, and wheels...

NYSW plans on having the units online by mid-July 2012, with service initially slated for the SU-99 and SU-100 road freights. NYSW's Chief Mechanical Officer, George King says the units will be equipped with global positioning satellite systems, a new fuel management system, narrow band radios, and new head-of-train/end-of-train system...

The status of the remainder of the NYSW motive power fleet stands as follows:

a.. CEFX SD40-2 lease units currently assigned to road trains are scheduled to go offline in July 2012
b.. GP20 2062-2064-2066 are for sale or will be scrapped in 2012
c.. GP40 3040 will continue in service at Utica, N.Y.
d.. GP40 3042 will be kept stored unserviceable pending future expansion plans
e.. SD40-2s 3012-3014-3016-3018-3022 will remain in service with minimal out of service time dependent on traffic volumes
f.. SD45-2 3618 & 3634 and SD40-2 3010 will remain stored serviceable pending traffic changes
g.. F45 3636 and SD40 3020 are to be scrapped on site in 2012
h.. SD70Ms 4050, 4052, and 4054 are parked pending rebuild/lease out or rebuild and use on line decision

OK, that's what I thought. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm pretty sure the SD60s aren't on the current roster quite yet

well...I see where Waldwick listed them on the roster..
which is sort-of true, and sort-of not! ;)
they are technically on the roster, in the sense that they are now NYSW "long term lease" locomotives..
but they sort-of aren't on the roster yet, in the sense that aren't even out of the shop yet..
so "on the roster quite yet" is a grey area..can be looked at either way..

Yes!:

SD45-2 3618 & 3634 and SD40-2 3010 will remain stored serviceable pending traffic changes.

I'm glad 2 SD45-2s will be kept.

True.
Im curious about the SD45-2 designation for these two units..
I have always listed *all* the NYSW SD45's as simply SD45's..with no "dash 2"..
because (I thought) that was the way NYSW always identified them..
and it seems they have, for most, but not all..

Photos:
3618 currently says SD45-2 on the side of the cab, photo from 2012:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=2920473

although she hasn't always..in 1990 she called herself a SD45:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=1168476

2006 - rebuilt at Dansville.
2007 - still says SD45
2009 - still says SD45
2010 - changed to SD45-2

What happened in 2010 to give 3618 a dash-2 in her ID?

Cant get a clear shot of 3634, but looks like she is now also marked as a SD45-2 as well..

Both units went to Dansville (3618 in '06, and 3634 in '07)..but they both returned from Dansville still marked as SD45's..
both got a re-classification to SD45-2 several years *after* the Dansville rebuild..
were they supposed to be re-calssed as SD45-2's after the Dansville rebuild, but didn't get re-letted as such until around 2010?
logically it would seem that is what has happened, but I dont know for sure..

thanks,
Scot

ok, I think I figured it out! ;)
looking at more photos made it clear..

All the NYSW SD45's except for two (3618 and 3634) were called SD45's for all of their careers with the NYSW..

3618 went to Dansville to be rebuilt in September 2006..she was rebuilt but *not* repainted at Dansville.
because she was not repainted, she returned still saying SD45 on the cab..
She operated that way for several more years..
She was probably "officially" designated a SD45-2 after the rebuild, but wasn't labeled as such on the side of the
cab until the "error" was fixed in 2010..So she was a SD45-2 in late 2006, but wasnt marked as such until 2010.

3634 went to Dansville to be rebuilt in late 2006, returned in January 2007..she *was* repainted at Dansville,
and returned from Dansville with SD45-2 on the side of the cab..

I will make a note of this on the page:
