Looking at some old arials I didn't realize how substancial the LNE line was. It went east from Tamaqua past the Hauto tunnel, went under Rt 209 and then looped all the way around the mountains to the far end of Summit Hill. There was a small yard in town too that stored coal hoppers. I never knew the line was so long.

Anyone know when it was abandoned or taken oos? I'm going to assume the 50s or 60s.

Also by the Hauto tunnel the long brown building was LC&N related. I think it was a shop building. There were hundreds of small coal condola type cars parked there.

The Summit Hill branch was abandoned in August of 1951.
