Are you familiar with the cover of Lou Grogan's tome on the Harlem Division (The Coming of the New York & Harlem Railroad)? There is an ETT map of the Harlem Division on the cover... does anyone know the source? The only maps I have seen are combined Harlem & Putnam maps from the later 1950's and 1960s. Does anyone have a source on a Harlem Division map?

Hi Otto~

For those of us who haven't seen the book, if you could upload the map, I might be able to help.

Dieter.

I would if I had a copy of my own. I can show you what I'm NOT looking for, which is this ubiquitous map from the 1950's/1960s:

... and not the Electric Division either...

The map on the cover of the book on the Harlem does not look like a map
that came from an employee timetable in my opinion. The employee
timetable maps generally show number of main line tracks among other
things that this particular map does not show.
I suspect that this map was probably drawn up by the author of the book
or possibly by Vic Westman who is a retired Harlem engineer and
probably knows more about the Harlem than the people who built it.

Otto....

What era of Harlem Division ett map are you looking for? The early etts (1907ish) showed the entire line GCT to Chatham but surrounding features such as connecting RRs (except for Hudson Div. and B&A) and state lines aren't shown. Later in 1907 the electric division was created and the Harlem was cut back to North White. By 1918, the Harlem ett showed connecting RRs all the way to Troy; but no state lines are shown. By 1930, the ett maps were of the type you do not want. I have some of the older etts, and if you want a copy of the map(s) contact me off-site.

You know, I'll have to go back into my records and check. I may be able to answer my own question after all.

I found the map I was looking for- turns out I think Larry sent this to me a while ago. This is similar to the Putnam Division map that is widely circulated- I believe these both date from the 1905-1915 period.
