Is it rare to see a CSXT C40-8 in yg paint? I saw one while I was near the New York State Fair on 9-3-04 between 4:50pm and 5:15pm. Which of the three unit was in Syracuse at that time?

I wish I had gotten a photo, but the camera has teething problems. The date I mean is 9-3-04. Just in case anybody was confused.

At least the yellow helps a bit -- the "Stealth" scheme was just unfortunate when it came out:

They managed, with one paint scheme, to reduce visiblity, lower morale, and create a morbid corporate image. A hat trick!

You saw the 7520? It was wrecked and retired years ago.......They might have rebuilt it though.

I have seen a few SD40's with the Yellow Nose and all gray body. I have also seen a couple of all gray C30-7's and a few locos that were all gray with just a Dark Blue cab roof.

How many, if any, of the Grey Ghosts are still in existance?

all of the C40-8's which were delivered in the stealth scheme have either had their noses (and back end of the long hood) repainted yellow or been painted into the YN2 scheme

there are only a couple (7509 and 7587 come to mind) which are still in the stealth scheme at all (with yellow nose). the rest have been repainted into the YN2 scheme

there are still alot of locomotives in the stealth scheme, alot of slugs, some GP40-2/GP38-2 and a couple C30-7's

they all have the yellow noses, all csx locomotives for the most part got them in the mid 90's

They all lost their "all-gray" status when, after implementing the YN2, someone at CSXT discovered that you actually can't see an all light gray locomotive in thick fog. Then, everything that didn't ahve the YN2 paint on it got yellow ends, regardless of what scheme. There's even some great photos of various units picked up after the CP got the D&H of GP-39-2's in Guilford gray, D&H lightening stripes, and even RDG green with yellow ends and sometimes a CSX logo on them.

I had seen a Sea Board System loco with yellow ends with CSX only on the ends with Sea Board System on the sides. a long time ago. I think the loco was an SD50 althow I could be wrong.

Just thought I'd mention that I saw a C-40-8 in Dewitt, Thursday about noon as a trailer on a road set, on a frieght working the Local yard. It was completely gray except the blue CSX on the flanks and ends and the yellow nose. I was tired and didn't get the number as I headed for home and bed. I'll keep an eye out for it.

The 7509 was in Willard, OH tonight at 2000hrs sitting on the old lead at the east end of the EB Class yard. Don't know what train it will be on next.
