So how will the HEP affect the operation of the locomotive? Will it handle just like a normal SD70MAC or more akin to a F40 with the prime mover in run-8 whenever HEP is needed?

Also, does anyone know how much hp the HEP will require?

The HEP does not make the engine run at notch 6 like a F40 but since the SD70macPH is running an inverter the speed of the engine will run some were from Notch 3 to notch 5 depending on load of HEP system.
the 4300 hp rating will drop about 1200 hp hith the HEP at full load (800Kw) but still leaving 3100 for traction

the box over front end of radiator section is a winterezation hatch. it deflects hot air from radiators to engineroom section st keep it A pressurized and B free of snow infiltration. all ARR's SD70's have it.

No, no, I mean the space between the radiators and the end of the locomotive, that feature is not on normal SD70MACs, I knew that the latter was a winterization hatch.
