The FJ & G was a comprehensive transportation outfit and had two distinct divisions, a steam division, built that way after the Civil War and an entirely separate electric division which was an amalgamation of a number of street railway and interurban lines linking Schenectady with Amsterdam, Gloversville, Johnstown and several other points.
The electric division was abandoned piece by piece in the 1930s and was replaced by FJ & G bus operations which were eventually sold to a bus only outfit in the late 1950s.
The steam division lasted into the early 1980s.

Forgot to mention, the FJ & G steam division went to diesel. The electric division was passenger only; it didn't carry freight.

WB&A....Following closure in 1935 became the B&A and operated some
segments with electric until 1950 using old WB&A cars, other segments
were operated with B&O steam ( USNA football and specials, Bowie Race
Track specials). After 1950 operations were by diesel locomotives mostly
B&O for USNA and BOWIE Race Track. Freight was operated by diesel
locomotives lettered for B&A until cessation, then taken over by Canton
RR using ex-Conrail locos.

FJ&G....Following cessation of electric operations were powered by steam
locomotives of the road. Also passenger operation were by gas-electric
cars purchased from other RRs. FJ&G had the old Chesapeake Beach #300
Brill car on their roster into the 1960's! Wish I could find out where it went
from there! Anyone know? They also had an ex-NYC gas-electric car. You
can find pics of this motive power by Googling "FJ&G RR" and you will get
a site with pics and history (VERY comprehensive!) FJ&G went out of busi-
ness in the mid 1980's if I remember correctly. Much of the ROW and track
still exist.

Not only did Bamberger dieselize in 1952 (RS-1m 570 and SW-8's 601 and 602) to continue its freight service into 1958, but it also continued until 1956 some limited passenger operations, such as Lagoon Amusement Part specials and troop movments (to Hill AFB). Also, Bamberger continued to haul lcl from SLC to Ogden (37 miles) until the very end!
