BALTIMORE (AP)--The city of Baltimore sued CSX Corp. (CSX) on Friday, charging the freight transportation company is responsible for a train derailment and tunnel chemical fire that paralyzed parts of the downtown business district for several days in 2001.
The city is seeking $10 million to cover the cost of fighting the fire, repairing a broken water main and other costs.
"It was one of the largest city emergencies the city has seen in a long time," Mayor Martin O'Malley said Friday. O'Malley said CSX had reimbursed the city only $350,000 toward those costs.
