A few south African steam locomotives have been brought into New Zealand in recent years . I too , wondered why .
Seems some guys just love steam locomotives , and arent too worried about the history side of things .
I guess the price would be right too .

A South African Mallett built for the narrow gauge in Natal (Port Shepstone to Harding) is working on the new Welsh Highland railway, at the Caernarfon end. It seems to be in very good condition.
