Budd SPV in SF Caltrain yard

While taking my first Baby Bullet trip this week visiting SF, I noticed what appeared to be a former Budd/GE Metroliner car (definitely not an Amfleet) in the stub yard coupled to a string of ballast hoppers.

Interesting piece of MOW equipment. Anybody know how it came to be there?

Actually, it is a DOT track inspection car. Caltrain bought it not too long ago and has used it once or twice. Doesn't run under it's own power. A friend of mine had it on a work train once... said it was pretty funky inside!

Thanks for the info. At or approaching 40 yrs. of age and probably never refurbed, I'll bet "funky" is an understatement

Actually I think it'd a former Budd SPV car, the supposed replacement for the RDC.
