Browns Yard/Coast Line freight

I saw a westbound sitting at Wood about 445pm or so on the Chemical Coast, im assuming going to Browns.

There is a tremendous amount of freight activity through Perth Amboy, with the steel plant being serviced daily, the runs back and forth to Browns, and the runs up and down the Perth Amboy Industrial, which connects at Wood to the Chemical Coast.

Which freights and at what times do they come thru Perth Amboy and across the Raritan River Drawbridge??? Are they daytimers, which would make 'em good for some shooting?? I am longing to catch a nice freight on the Raritan River Draw!! And do any of them run on Saturdays or Sundays?? Many thanks for any good info!!

The daily OI-16 train generally comes south across the Raritan River on NJT trackage in the early afternoon. There is very public access at the north end of the bridge, just down the street from the NJT Perth Amboy station, where you can walk out onto a jetty and get some decent shots, but the light is best shooting from the south end of the bridge. Haven't found a legal/public spot at the south end yet, but I'll try again sometime soon; perhaps someone here has a spot that they can recommend. The train usually returns north later in the afternoon. These are from the north side in Perth Amboy..........

NO. There was trouble to be had last year when someone here attempted, an entire fiasco ensued. The best I can tell you is hope for a turn and burn.

Yes, IIRC, there was a problem in the South Amboy area at the south end of the bridge last year, thanx Brandon. The north end in Perth Amboy does have a public parking lot (at the end of 2nd St., I believe) at waters edge, but bring a big lens...

USUALLY..the 16 (or if it's Monday/Tuesday listen for the JR2) tries to make it to WOOD @3ish.Saturday is the only day the 16 returns to the Island with lite power,normally the power will stay at Browns for the PR52

Does anyone know why the last 6 cars on the Sunday (today's) OI16 were coal hoppers?

I snapped these from where that hot dog guy usually is on the east end of the yard.

I caught NS 1703 leading a mixed freight south on the Chemical Coast. I believe it was the OI-16 to Browns Yard train.

Photo includes a CSX stack train and an airplane landing at Newark.

If it was OI-16, it appeared loaded for a JR2 transfer at Port Reading.
Can anyone confirm this?

I believe it was JR-02 I could have sworn I heard them on the scanner the other day and what location did you get this picture from? Btw,nice shot!

Thanks for confirming this. This train had the tanker cars for Port Reading up front and the box cars, gondolas filled w/ scrap, etc... for Browns Yard toward the rear. By the looks of the arrangement, I figured they had some maneuvering to do at Port Reading.

I love this location! it's not too far from the airport

JR2 is only Monday and Tuesday, that's The 16's rest days.

I did see someone post that OI-16 set off cars at Port Reading, on December18, 2011, which was a Sunday.

He did not refer to this as a JR2. Would this be considered a JR2 transfer?

The train I saw on Friday the 13th sported two SDs, one NS and one CSX, which is a typical consist for OI-16.
The train had a lot of GAMX and ADMX tankers along with freight typical for Browns (box cars w/ graffiti, gondolas w/ scrap metal, center beams w/ wood). I assumed the GAMX and ADMX cars were going to Port Reading and the rest to Browns.

Nice shooting! OI-16 seemed to be moving pretty fast across Cheesequake road.

Thanks and yeah he did but he was probably doing track speed which I think is 25.
