No reports yet, I assume the worst we may have to deal with are some down trees. Only makes it more complicated in the areas with overhead trolley wire where there could be a possibility of wire damage.

Frostbite Ferroequinology: The Sequel!

This is a follow up presentation to one featured a bunch of years ago. The railroad themed images will have the common thread of some form of frozen water in each picture. Although there are a few requested "favorites" included, the bulk of the pictures were not shown in the original presentation. The membership meeting starts at 7:30 at the 40 & 8 Club on University Ave in Rochester and guests are always welcome. Come on out and watch the snow fly on the screen!

Are you interested in volunteering or learning more about how you can help? Join one of our Saturday work sessions... We're usually in the depot getting warm by the stove in the morning, and then break off and work on projects. Then we stop for lunch and get warm again and keep working for a little while longer. Don't be shocked to find out that most of the jobs around the museum are not glamorous, including stacking fire wood, sorting parts, greasing things that should move, welding things that should not, and other mundane tasks. But they all keep our museum working... And lead to more exciting projects, like restoring cabooses and operating diesels.

Come join us for our Holiday Open House at Industry Depot! From 6:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m., enjoy the hospitality of our restored 1909 Erie Railroad passenger depot! Warm up by the stove, enjoy some hot cider and treats, and learn more about our unique railroad museum. ** THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20 - MUSEUM MEETING
Donovan Shilling will be presenting the evening program at our monthly membership meeting, titled "35 Golden Years at Ontario Beach Park." Don will outline the history of Rochester's lakeside amusement park, also including Sea Breeze, Glen Haven, and others. Rochester once had many amusement parks served by trolley and by rail, and Don's presentation features many rare never-before-published photographs.

The museum store opens at 7pm, a brief business meeting takes place at 7:30pm, and the program begins around 8:15pm. This is a FREE event. We meet at the 40 & 8 Club, 933 University Avenue, in Rochester, NY.

Happy New Year! Here are a few of the things our volunteers will be working on this Saturday at the museum. New hands are always welcome to join us as we volunteer year round.

- Restoration Building Cleanup.
We need to continue to cleanup the restoration building in preparation for constructing the pit this spring.

- LV Caboose 95100 Restoration.
Continued needle scaling needs to be done. Car is inside our shop and closed in so it can be heated allowing you to work in comfort. Upcoming on this project will be some metal replacement on the exterior of the car. Do you have metal fabrication or welding skills and would be willing to help us? It would be much appreciated as we work hard to keep this restoration project moving along.

- TC Flat Rebuild.
This winter we are going to rebuild one of our work cars including the replacement of some of the structural wood timbers.

- Depot Basement Drainage.
Last month drainage for the depot basement was installed, but work remains to be completed to properly plumb it into the basement.

Other projects looking for skills to help:

** Pipe fitting: ex-Rochester Gas & Electric GE 110-tonner #8 is in our shop and has recently received new air tanks. Those tanks now need to be plumbed into place. While we have some resources in house, additional pipe fitting capabilities would be very welcome to help keep this project moving along.

** Sheet metal work & welding: Along with metal work on Lehigh Valley caboose #95100, there is also work on ex-RG&E locomotive #8. We have some cab sheet metal that has been removed and needs to be replaced. Additional sheet metal and welding skills would be welcome to again help keep this project moving along. The museum has both a Miller MIG welder and plasma cutter available.

Our January Museum Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 17, at the 40&8 Club at 933 University Avenue in Rochester, New York.

The evening program will be "Lehigh Valley Railroad with Jim Moore." The show will cover not only the LV, but also the New York Central, Baltimore & Ohio and the Erie Lackawanna in the 1950s and 1960s from around the Rochester area.

Everyone is invited to our meeting on February 21: The evening program will feature a tour of Rochester railroading in the 1960s and 1970s by long-time museum member Peter Gores. Featured railroads will include New York Central, Penn Central, Baltimore & Ohio, Erie Lackawanna, Bath & Hammondsport, and the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville. You won't want to miss it!

Work continues on restoring our Lehigh Valley caboose that we rescued from a local scrap yard last year. Volunteer Rob Burz cuts rivet heads from the sill of Lehigh Valley caboose 95100 so the rusted sheet metal can be replaced. February 12, 2013 - Photo by Joe Nugent. Everyone is invited to our museum meeting on March 21! The evening program will be "Charlotte Swing Bridge" by museum members Chris Playford and Harold Russell. Chris will share his digital images of the bridge’s dismantling from November 2012, while Harold will share his slides made in 2005 while gathering field data. The Hojack Swing Bridge carried the trains of the New York Central, Penn Central, and Conrail over the mouth of the Genesee River for more than 90 years.

Harold Russell has been a member of R&GVRRM for about 18 years. He enjoys being a track car operator, a member of the train crew and serving as Depot Guide. Chris Playford is an avid railfan who first visited our museums in 1979, and been active operating track cars for the past seven years. Chris has been with the USPS for the last 31 years, with his first three years as a sorting clerk.

The museum book store opens at 7:00pm, a brief business meeting takes place at 7:30pm, and the program begins around 8:15pm. Cash bar (soft drinks available too). This is a FREE event. Everyone is welcome! The 40&8 Club is located at 933 University Avenue in Rochester, New York.
