Re: Acela First Class Dining

by Greg Moore ¦  Tue May 23, 2023 10:56 pm ¦  Forum: Amtrak ¦  Topic: Acela First Class Dining ¦  Replies: 24 ¦  Views: 3534

Back when I was still commuting to and from DC I sometimes was able to upgrade to Acela and I would post reviews (Found the link here ). That was well over a decade ago. More recently, I had gotten the impression that the quality had diminished. Hopefully this is a sign of improvement. I don't think...

I've always wondered why the lack of newspapers? Is it because the Times Useless is to cheap to deliver them, or because the car attendant doesn't want to deal with them? (I realize it's a bit more complicated now that most business class cars have no operating cafe, but even then, put a pile IN the...

I knew one could, but I don't think I'd want to take the risk. Honestly, if I want a sleeper, I want it!

That said, OMG, that food presentation looks HORRIBLE!
And I see Amtrak still bans coach passengers from the diner. Yet another reason I'm less likely to take the LSL at this time.

I have thought about one use that wouldn't overly interest me: PV - if I do someday own a railcar, I want a nice sleeper and open area with large windows. This is sadly one thing the Amfleets lack. I know Amtrak experiment with a sleeper room at least once, but I can't see much interest in PV hands....

Honestly, for now, do something like for every N (say 5) retired, pick the best 1 and use it for expanded service someplace else. Once that service proves its worth, start investing in Airo or other equipment. But for now, don't scrap every single one. Amtrak may, in the next decade, find itself in ...

I should add that if I recall correctly, a station in the "Gulch" would present operational difficulties such as a reverse move. Probably best to move to Lenox. As for the former SRY Peachtree commuter station, I'm not sure I see a reason to keep it other than for historical purposes or a...

Re: Berkshire Flyer: Pittsfield - New York City Service via Albany

But if the track were to be relaid with the intent of restoring passenger service, shouldn't the train be named "Harlem Valley Flyer" vice "Berkshire". Well as long as the state of Massachusetts is paying for, it I suspect the name Berkshire Flyer will stay, regardless of routing.

Hard to say. I mean they did end up putting some track in, but I do doubt they'd ever return it all the way to Chatham. And honestly, if they did, that would probably have been a better routing for the current Berkshire Flyer. However, I do hope this incarnation makes it, and that someday, New York ...

So, back the Berkshire Flyer Service.

I will still argue that NYS really needs to toss some money into the pot here and put a stop in Chatham NY. It's a natural for this one I think. (and I will again address my local reps on this.)

Yes, the Housatonic has made a lot talk about passenger service... if someone else is paying for all the track upgrades and other infrastructure.

Mr. Trainguy, the New Haven always had a late Sunday only #147 The Litchfield, leaving Pittsfield about 5P. passing SKS at 7, and arriving GCT 10, just to accommodate the business that to you and Mr. Moore hold, Amtrak is leaving behind. Slight clarification. My reference to the Friday return trip ...

While true an aisle chair is required, from my discussions with people who use wheelchairs, practically it's a huge pain and they will when possible use the front row seats. Transferring from their wheelchair to the aisle chair and then to their airplane seat and then back again is highly inconvenie...

Wow... because some of us want to be able to put our bike on a train we're whining and want everything handed to us? As noted, for a number of trains, there is space in the Viewliner baggage or bag/dorm cars, so no, let me repeat that ZERO, passenger space has to be used. In other cases, non-revenue...

People keep bringing this up and it's been debunked a number of times. There's no requirement that 100% of every car needs to be wheelchair accessible. It's simply not practical For example, regardless if you are single-level or bilevel, in sleeper cars, you will never have practical wheelchair acce...
