So they must have removed the second track between Waterbury and Ansonia between 1948 and 1955 because a 1955 NH schedule with map shows single from Ansonia to just south of Waterbury

"Signaled passing sidings were added at Beacon Falls and Derby. Existing sidings just south of Waterbury and just north of the branch’s junction with the New Haven Line at Devon" From the article about it. I think the line may have been double tracked completely and was double tracked into...

Where precisely are the new passing sidings and how long are they?

I've been on a train where we had to wait for a passing train and it can cause schedule delays. If the sidings are a few miles long, not as much chance for a delay but if only a few hundred yards, that can be a problem.

Old Saybrook, through the station had four tracks prior to the new raised platforms. The line is four tracks for a short distance, just west of the station.

Guilford is wired for all three tracks. Not sure when they did it but it is wired.
It did take a long time though.

And Clinton station is being worked on.
Not sure about Madison or funding for it.

At one time, it was proposed to extend Metro North service to Rhinecliff. The residents voted against that because it would cause urban sprawl. These area's have too low a population to support service. We also don't know if after a vaccine, companies may continue to have employees work from home mo...

This is good news. What was strange was Amtrak was charging the same price for tickets as CT Rail. When taking a commuter train, people just arrive and go, it is not a long distance trip with reservations and such. Also, in normal times - Thanksgiving and Christmas - CT Rail ran redundant service to...

I think the right of way in Windsor Locks is as it was when it was two tracks. They may need to redo the grade crossing. From a cost approach, it would be a lot less costly to just add the Windsor hi level platform where the current ones are located and be done with that station. The parking area is...

I did not know the regionals would have the same pricing. That is good.
Are ticket purchased on line only or if a station has an Amtrak machine, would that work?

This Amtrak regional tickets not honored starting Sept 14 conflicts with the agreement. It was Vermonter as the exception. Will Ct DOT fight this? As far as progress with adding the track, station builds and a Windsor high level platform, 1) West Hartford demanded a train station in order to support...

I am assuming NH2060 item about fleet expansion also includes adding as much of the second track north of Hartford as possible. The idea about using the rail to the airport - I totally agree with and perhaps an early morning one seat ride and late night one seat ride to New Haven (and beyond ie Brid...

We need to be realistic as money does not grow on trees. Metro-North (Connecticut) 1) No need for fourth track in Milford, plus the westbound platform is located where the track was. 2) Some type of passing track on the New Canaan branch. Look where parking can be expanded (perhaps Talmadge Hill) an...

Opening to Hahaganah station last Sat night.

They said the electric train will be extended to Herzyliya sometime in 2020.

The viaduct is currently able to only hold three tracks. I think they removed part of the viaduct years ago when they brought the bus station over. The only plan is to upgrade (welded rail) the section between Oakwood Ave and Parkville. They really don't want to spend $'s on added track when it may ...
