Re: Seashore Trolley Museum Discussion

Time to clear up a few items in this thread... With the Downeaster adding a stop in Kennabunkport, will there be any chance for Seashore to connect up with it? The Downeaster is adding a stop in Kennebunk, not Kennebunkport. The only rails in Kennebunkport are Seashore's, and then just barely. In th...

Interesting. It makes sense since quite a few of the Main Line and Atlantic Ave. stations could barely accommodate the 8 car consists. That may explain the photo below. It's of a No. 2 car from 1904. The pic isn't very good but the end of the vestibule appears to be cordoned off. That's the only ph...

Just wondering, I do recall riding the "modernized" 0900s in the early 60s. I was too young to remember the actual operation of the train, just the sashed windows, the single panel sliding door, and the growl of the traction motors. On the vestibuled cars, was just the door by the operato...

I noticed them at the rear ends of Downtown Crossing and Tufts Medical Center yesterday. Could be a stopping point when running wrong-rail.

"Guards between every pair of cars were not completely eliminated until 1918." At what point where Guards for every 2 cars brought back? It was that way in the 1960's and later until the Guard law was repealed. Jon That is when Guards for every two cars were instituted. Prior to that is w...

That must be pretty rare. Pics on facebook recently revealed that the last MILW-employed engineer just retired from Metra, and Metra took over operation of MILW lines about the time the G was retired. I rely on Noel for any GG1-era railroading info from out east. Be thankful for all the vintage ste...

Sounds like it's just one problem, with whatever system steps down the voltage from 650VDC for all the low-V systems on the car. If that was the case, nothing would work, since the low voltage system powers the controls as well as those auxiliaries. Sounds more like a simple loose connection somewh...

Are the tracks you are referring to the Grand Junction that branches off of the Eastern Route? I vaguely remember the old line still being connected between 1994 and 1998. No, we are talking about the Blue Line Rapid Transit; it only approaches the Grand Junction between Wood Island and the tunnel ...

I do believe that this project has merit, but the added cost of electrification puts the price tag in the 2.2 Billon range, and that doesn't consider operating costs, such as locomotives and cars! They say it compares favorably with GLX, but that involves making a 2 or 3 track cut through an urban a...

The liaison for South Coast Rail did a presentation for the BSRA tonight. They want to do 25 kV AC electrification for environmental reasons. Might as well erect a marker in the cemetery of dead projects for that one!

Could you cover the steps & convert PCC cars to high level boarding? Then you'd have modern ADA compliance. I think the end taper would preclude using the front doors at high-level platforms; in San Francisco the Boeing cars couldn't use the end doors in the subway for that reason. The Boeing L...

Recently looking through NETransit's website I noticed that the blue line has a wire car numbered 4367. All I can fin on this is that it was built in house at Watertown in '92. Does anyone have pictures of this car and/or know the history of it? 4367 is a twin to 4366, the Green Line Wire Car. It o...

Sounds good to me Gerry. It got me to thinking, the 45 #3 cars were delivered without anti-climbers. (The Elevated did train wood and steel cars together though) The #4 cars (0220-0239) built by Pressed Steel in 1911 were consructed with anti-climbers, which were by that time, an industry standard....

Apparently those boxes stayed when trains were laid up.I don't know if they were just on the front and end of a train or were on the end of each unit. Note the anti-climber added to the front of car 0101. It appears some wooden cars got them some didn't. Mike Anticlimbers were a product of the No. ...
